Had a wonderful turn out for the Country & Western Summer Travel Event in Port Orange this Friday. Over 100 Travel Club members participated and had the opportunity to see old friends and meet new travel mates too! Delicious food was prepared by my husband Ray, and the wonderful people at La Costa Clubhouse were kind enough to allow us to use their huge clubhouse for free! That was very generous. Thank you all for coming along and sharing the day with us – we appreciate each and every one of you and want you to know you make our trips fun! Check out some of the pictures that were taken during the event on our pictures page.
Join us for our annual fun, free Travel Club event at La Costa Clubhouse on Big Tree Road in Port Orange. Festivities begin at 2:30 p.m. and end at 5:00p.m. Refreshements provided! Wear your Country and Western duds and join in on the judging of the best dressed! George and I will be all duded up guarantee! Wear your Cowboy hats, red square scarves, those kicker boots, and let’s go to town for a few hours!
The story behind this song: On our Kentucky Derby/Nashville tour this May we headed home through Montgomery Alabama one Sunday. With not much going on some of our clients asked to go to one of the casinos in the area that evening. That was funny enough – even thinking there would be a casino open in rural and conservative Alabama on a Sunday – but it turned out to be true! Desk clerks sent us out on the back roads to find them, and as we wound our way through the countryside we came upon a short span over a creek. Once over it with the bus, we came upon a man who was sitting in a makeshift tollbooth on the side of the road. He told George it’d be $1 for each passenger. (There were 14 of us in the coach!) We were taken aback, actually we were like….really? But he was serious! Anyway. we collected the money (it was kind of like being in the movie Deliverance …..a little odd) but we then when on our way. Karen thought it was pretty crazy really, and decided to write a song about our experience. I’ve got it downloaded here for you to enjoy. She did a fabulous job – and actually, since May when she wrote this one, she’s been awarded a record contract! Great going Karen – and thank you again for the song and the memories! (By the way, Karen’s friend Dave Parks from Nashville is singing.) Enjoy!
We’ve been trying to put together a tour on the Mississippi or one of the rivers flowing into the big river next year. It’s been tough trying to find a week that works for everyone, so I’m going to find a few weeks and ask whomever is interested to call me right away. We’ll be able to lock in that time and get started with the deposits, etc. Please keep an eye on the site for these few weeks – they will be set by Friday, July 18th.
What a gas! Went on up to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood over the weekend and had a ball! Are you considering coming along on our trip in October? We’ll be seeing 4 shows, having four breakfasts and two dinners, shopping and enjoying a day at Dollywood as well! Dollywood, in case you haven’t been there, is wonderful. www.dollywood.com Clean, pretty, with lots of attractions for all ages, benches under trees, candy and ice cream shops, a full buffet, wonderful train ride around the mountains at fall color time, and….even the tour bus and a museum of Dolly herself! Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. While in Pigeon Forge we also looked through the multitude of shows and shops for you – and found a neat tour to enjoy at Busch Beans as well! (Plus….When we leave Pigeon Forge on our October tour we will stop in Hendersonville for lunch before we head home.) Check out some of the pictures I took on our pictures page here….with more to come of course in October.
